In 2007, LSU played for the BCS national championship as a two-loss team. Since the formation of the College Football Playoff in 2014, no two-loss team has made the playoffs, but I think it's certainly possible.
Because no three-loss team has a reasonable chance of making the College Football playoff, I am therefore ranking all teams that are 7-2 or better, based on record, schedule strength, the quality of opponents in losses, and the margin of losses.
I believe this is a ranking of teams who are in the best position right now to make the playoffs and would be most deserving to get the invitation.

Ohio State (9-0)
Michigan (9-0)
TCU (9-0)
