Welcome to the MVP Chase, where I, James Leroy Wilson, rank players and teams using objective data.
The Playoff Committee's October 31 rankings placed five Power-5 undefeated teams at the top. As they all remained undefeated after yesterday's games, there's no reason to expect the Committee to knock any of them out of the Top 5, although there might be some reshuffling just to stir debate.
My ranking, however, isn't about who are the best or most deserving teams if the playoffs start right now. It presumes, rather, that there will not be five or more undefeated teams to choose from at the end of the season. The ranking is a snapshot of who has done the most to prove they're a good football team so far. So a one-loss team is ahead of several undefeated teams, and two-loss and even some 3-loss teams are ahead of some one-loss teams.
